About

Honest answers for travelers headed to Japan.

Junpath is an independent planning resource and toolkit for travelers heading to Japan and anime fans worldwide — built by editors who actually live in Japan.

What we publish

Two kinds of content, both rooted in things we have personally tried, paid for, and verified:

  • Interactive calculators and finders — for decisions where a number beats an opinion (Should I buy the JR Pass? Which SIM card fits my trip? Where can I watch this anime?).
  • Practical guides — what changed in 2026, how things actually work in person, the mistakes first-timers make, and how locals would approach the same problem.

Why our recommendations can be trusted

Three commitments shape every page on Junpath:

  1. We do not take payment to recommend. We earn affiliate commissions when readers buy through our outbound links — but we earn the same commission whether the JR Pass wins, the a regional JR pass wins, or buying per-ride wins. The math decides the recommendation, not the payout.
  2. Numbers are verified to a date. Every price, timetable, and procedure on Junpath was checked against an authoritative source within the past quarter, and we display the verification date on each calculator and article. When prices change, so does the page.
  3. We say when we have not been there. Where we recommend something we have not personally tested — a service in a region we have not visited, a product we have not bought — we say so explicitly. Most other Japan-travel sites do not.

Editorial team

Junpath is produced by a small editorial team based in Japan. We do not publish individual bylines for now — the entire team stands behind each article, and corrections are taken seriously by whoever has hands free that day.

If you are a journalist, partner, or fellow publication who needs to identify a specific contact for a story, please reach out via our contact page.

How Junpath makes money

Junpath earns money two ways:

  • Affiliate commissions when readers buy products or services through our outbound links (full list in our affiliate disclosure). This is the majority of our revenue.
  • Direct partnerships — we do not currently sell sponsored content, paid placement, or advertising. If we ever do, we will label it unambiguously.

We do not show banner ads, popups, autoplay video, or newsletter gates. We do not run retargeting pixels or third-party analytics. Hosting-level request metadata (handled by Cloudflare) is the extent of our visitor measurement.

What we are not

  • We are not a travel agency. We point you to agencies, booking platforms, and providers we recommend. We do not handle bookings, refunds, or customer service ourselves.
  • We are not affiliated with the Japan National Tourism Organization, any JR company, any anime studio, or any service we review.
  • We are not a news site. Articles are evergreen guides and calculators, not breaking news.

Corrections and feedback

Spotted a stale price, a broken link, or a step that has changed since we last verified? Email us via the contact page with the page URL and what needs updating. We typically respond within three business days, and corrections are usually live the same week.

Coming next

We are launching new tools approximately monthly:

  • Pocket WiFi vs SIM vs eSIM finder (recommended option for your travel style)
  • Anime streaming availability checker (region-by-region)
  • Tokyo Subway Pass calculator (24h / 48h / 72h)
  • Japan trip budget calculator

If you have a calculation or comparison you wish existed, tell us via the contact page. Reader suggestions have shaped most of the roadmap so far.
